What is Ethereum Classic?
Ethereum Classic maintains the original, unaltered history of the Ethereum network. Following the theft of $50 million ETH from The DAO in 2016, the Ethereum network hard-forked into two separate blockchains: one erasing the theft from the ledger, the other keeping it. Following Bitcoin’s example, the Ethereum Classic community has since voted to put a cap on the total amount of ETC, the version of Ether used on the Classic blockchain, and also reduce the block reward by 20% every five million blocks.
