What is Cardano?
Cardano is a public blockchain network using ADA as its native cryptocurrency. It was launched by Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson, who left the Ethereum project after disagreements with Vitalik Buterin. Cardano’s blockchain is divided in two layers: one which tracks ledger values, and the other which executes the rules for transactions.
Unlike Ethereum, Cardano achieves consensus using proof of stake (PoS) instead of proof of work (PoW). This removes incentives for extreme amounts of energy consumption.
